Heritage Optometric Clinic

Heritage Optometric Clinic

In a time when many optical businesses come and go, our practice has been caring for the vision needs of Carleton Place residents since 1948.
Our dedication to eye care began when Dr. Bruce McDonald started his practice in 1948. In 1963 he moved to 130 Bridge Street, now the home of The Black Tartan Restaurant.
Dr. Edmison joined the practice in 1980. Some of the long time patients may remember him opening the exam room door to be sure you could read the Benjamin Moore Paint sign across the street. We've come a long way! In 1991 Dr. Connie Madigan-Swant joined the practice, and in 1995 we moved to our present location, which was expanded in 2012.
We were one of the first, if not the first practice in the province that had Optometrists, an Optician and an Ophthalmologist working together to provide the best care possible. We now have five optometrists, two opticians and an eye surgeon and an experienced caring staff of ten who all work together to provide you with up to date thorough eye care and fashionable modern eyewear and lenses from the best manufacturers in the world. Most recently, we are now providing options in Myopia control .
In our continuing effort to provide the best care possible in the last few years we have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to acquire the latest equipment including an Ultrasound Pachymeter, HRT, Optical Coherence Tomographer, and an Optomap Laser Retinal Imaging device that was used to find DR. EDMISON'S RETINAL DETACHMENT and allow him to get a prompt laser surgery procedure and avoid possible serious permanent vision loss! So if you value your gift of sight as much as we do and you or your children have never had a thorough eye exam, or you have not seen us in a while its time that you give us a call.
We are happy to support local charities such as our local hospital foundation ( Carleton Place District and Memorial Hospital ) , the Canadian Cancer Society through the Carleton Place Chapter’s annual Little Black Dress event and the worldwide Optometry Giving Sight charity .
